Description: During this class, you will explore various art journaling techniques with
Deb Slocum from the Painter’s Perch. Art shouldn’t be intimidating and journaling is a
great way to dip your toes in with no pressure. This is just for you! We’ll cover various
materials like paints, and glues and various techniques like collage, using found objects
and ephemera, and how to make monoprints you can add to your journals using Gelli
printmaking techniques. I’ll also have an assortment of stamps that can be used. But if
you have any of those things yourself, feel free to bring your favorites. Just be sure your
supplies are well-labeled!
Materials to bring:
Your choice of art journal. Watercolor or mixed media paper sketchbooks are
great. Suggested 5 x 7” or larger so there’s enough workable space to dig in. Be
sure pages are a nice thick weight that can hold up to paint and glue. If your
pages are flimsy they will warp!
Things you might want to add to your journal. Can be ribbons, ticket stubs, notes,
feathers, lightweight fabric. The sky is the limit…. The more unique to your lived
experience the better!
An old magazine or two that you don’t mind destroying. We’ll be adding collage
elements and magazines are great to find words, phrases and images.
Paint clothes or a smock.
I will be providing glues, brushes, craft paints and other drawing materials like pens and
paint markers.
Register early as seating is limited!
